History :
There is no doubt that the ability to communicate is the primary factor that distinguishes human beings from animals. Equally, it is the ability to communicate well that distinguishes one individual from another. Therefore one needs to be equipped with habits for good communication skills, as this is what will make a person a happy and successful social being.
The Communication Skills Department at KAU College of Arts was initially established as a unit following the decree No. (10809 / Q) issued by H.E. the President of the University on 31/7/2006,. The aim was to prepare incoming students who are academically underprepared with the necessary cognitive tools and skills to be able to deal with the wide variety of college-level materials necessary to succeed. Then came the decision by the Council of Higher Education on 11/11/2009 to convert the unit into a separate section named the Department of Communication Skills.
In order to prepare truly college-ready students, the Communication Skills Department main objective is to enhance and expand the interpersonal skills of students by offering a range of courses that are designed to refine their skills. The aim is to produce critical, flexible and fluent students. Furthermore, communication skills enrichment workshops are organized by the Department. These workshops are designed to help students improve and develop their skills in areas such as oral presentation of information, attentive listening, note-taking, creative and critical thinking.
